About the LGCC
The Lesbian and Gay Community Center was founded more than a decade ago to serve the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.
That decade was a watershed politcal accompmplishment for our community. In 1991, the New Orleans City Council passed a gay non-discrimination ordinance. In 1993, the Lesbian and Gay Community Center opened the doors. In 1997, New Orleans Mayor Marc H. Morial extended domestic partner benefits to city employees. And, in 1998, the Big Easy became one of the earliest cities to add gender identity to its list of groups protected from discrimination.
Our first location was on Rampart Street but our current location is on Decatur Street, in the heart of the Gay Triangle.
